Texas Campaign for Mothers is trying to clarify Texas laws to protect mothers and their physicians. Authentic stories showcasing the real-life impact of these laws are critical in determining how and to what extent we need to clarify these laws. Please consider sharing experiences showing how (1) the “Life of the Mother” exception is difficult to interpret, (2) severe physician penalties delay medical intervention, (3) the lack of exceptions for rape, incest, and fatal abnormalities negatively impacts physician-patient communication and care, and (4) the liability potential for “aiding and abetting” impacts the practice of medicine. We are seeking all types of stories of compromised reproductive health care, from major health scares to the unsensational – the routineness of delayed care, the difficulty finding care for women emergently suffering from pregnancy complications, the erosion of patient-physician relationships, and the fear in medical workplaces – to understand the extent of these experiences as systematic problems. Firsthand perspectives most effectively engage legislators which will help secure this issue’s prioritization in the 2025 Legislative Session.
